The assistant conductor (AC) position is an outstanding educational opportunity with a small stipend, designed for young conductors in the early stages of their career desiring practical experience working with a community choir. The position is meant to further the applicant’s education and professional goals. The AC is expected to be at all rehearsals and performances, assisting the Artistic Director (AD) as needed (e.g., for sectionals, etc.) and substituting for the AD when necessary. In addition, the AC works with the AD to prepare one or more pieces that the AC would conduct in performance, thus providing an opportunity to accumulate performance credits and expand the AC’s repertoire list. The assistant conductor also sings/performs with the choir when not conducting, including any smaller ensembles within the choir.
