Andover Choral Society, directed by Dr. Michael Driscoll, invites those who enjoy singing classical choral music to join us for our 89th season. Open rehearsals will be held on Monday, September 17 and Monday, September 24 from 7:20 p.m.-9:30 p.m. at Christ Church, 33 Central Street, Andover.
The chorus will perform a concert of late nineteenth-century choral music that features Giacomo Puccini’s exuberant Messa di Gloria, Johannes Brahms’ moving Schicksalslied (Song of Destiny), and selected movements from Giuseppe Verdi’s dramatic Messa da Requiem on Sunday, January 27, 2019, at 3:00 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Andover.
For our spring concert, the chorus will perform Abraham Lincoln Walks at Midnight by Florence Price, who was the first African-American woman to be recognized as a symphonic composer and to have a composition played by a major orchestra, on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at 3:00 p.m. at Christ Church in Andover. The piece is a musical setting of a poem by Vachel Lindsay.
High school juniors and seniors are invited to sing with the Andover Choral Society through the chorus’s Choral Scholars Program. Funded by grants from several local cultural councils, the program is free to students from any town if they are currently in good standing in their high school choruses.
