Alto Section Leader

Christ Church Anglican in Phoenix, AZ, is seeking an alto section leader to begin with the commencement of the 2016-2017 choir season, which runs from the first rehearsal on September 7th, 2016, through the May 28th, 2017.

The choir at Christ Church Anglican is an ensemble of 14-20 singers, comprised of volunteers who are supported by the efforts of the soprano, alto, tenor, and bass, section leaders. Repertoire of the choir includes Anglican Chant, Renaissance polyphony, English anthems, contemporary choral works, and the finest examples of sacred choral music. The choir also supports the musical participation of the congregation.

The choir at Christ Church Anglican rehearses Wednesday evenings, 7:00-9:00 PM, and sings at the 9:00 AM service on Sundays, as well as two choral Evensong services, various advent services, and services leading up to Easter.
Ideal candidates should be strong sight readers that exhibit a collegial spirit, working well with both professionals and nonprofessionals.
Necessary qualifications are as follows:

*The ability to learn a wide range of repertoire, from Renaissance through modern-era compositions, independently and accurately, and to sing all repertoire in a manner appropriate to respective performance practice and style.

*The ability to smoothly transition between singing as a strong leader and as a member of a blended section as a particular situation requires.

*Previous experience singing in choral ensembles.

*Previous experience as a Section Leader or in a similar position is desirable, but not required.

*The ability to find a substitute singer for rehearsals and services that are missed due to illness or conflicting schedules.

*Vocal Performance or Choral Music Education degree is preferred, but not required.

Compensation will be $50 per call for a rehearsal and $75 per call for services. Audition materials and a Working Agreement pertinent to the position are available on request.
