On Sunday, October 11, the Young People’s Chorus of New York City, conducted by its Artistic Director Francisco J. Núñez, will compete live in Munich, Germany, against the two other finalists in the Children and Youth category: the Aarhus Pigekor (Aarhus Girls’ Choir) from Denmark and the Romanian Radio Children’s Choir.
In advising YPC of this exciting news, Brian Newhouse, Managing Director of Classical APM said, “YPC represented America, and our nation couldn’t have had a stronger or more joyful contestant in the competition. Congratulations to the entire YPC community.”
The competition is held every two years under the auspices of the European Broadcasting Union, the largest community of public service media organizations in the world with 73 members in 56 countries.
Song selections that advanced YPC to the Euroradio Competition finals were from YPC’s tour performances in Basel, Switzerland, this past spring. On YPC’s recent four-day tour of the Twin Cities in November, the chorus joined host Fred Child in the APM studios to record these songs and more live APM’s Performance Today program. These performances, together with interviews by Fred Child, can be heard today on the Performance Today website at www.performancetoday.publicradio.org Afterwards, it will be available in the Performance Today archives at www.performancetoday.publicradio.org/programs
