Mendelssohn’s oratorio Elijah was inspired by the great choral masterpieces of Johann
Sebastian Bach. A few weeks ago I aired one of British composer Francis Pott’s works.
I think this review describes the work we shall hear this morning rather well. “Ubi caritas
et amor is a wedding anthem that makes an effective SATB alternative to Duruflé’s classic
but dispositionally inconvenient SATTBB version.” – Matthew Greenall, The Singer June 2004
Dr. Joseph Adam has been organist of St. James’ Cathedral, Settle since 1993.

We tend to think of Camille Saint-Saens as the brilliant composer of symphonies. That he was indeed.

Aristide Cavaille-Coll (1811-1899) was a French organ builder who created instruments with wonderful
symphonic sounds. He also equipped his instruments with playing aids which made the organ more
manageable from the player’s perspective.
