We observe two special occasions this Sunday. It is the Eve of the Jewish New Year. Rosh Hashana is Monday, September 17. It is also Dia de la Independencia in Mexico.
The major work for this show is Sir Michael Tippett’s A Child of Our Time. Tippett was profoundly influenced by the Kristallnacht events of November 1938. Somehow I think this composition is particularly apt at this present time, given all the violence we have witnessed this week and continue to see abroad.
Tippett was a pacifist. He believed that issues should be resolved through understanding and reconciliation.
In addition to the beautiful Rochberg anthem on this morning’s show there will be a special New Year’s program Sunday evening at 5 p.m. as well as more seasonal music on Peaceful Reflections from 10 until midnight.
Shana tova.
