We observe the solemnity of All Saints with the words of Bishop William

Walsham How hymn “For all the saints” sung to Ralph Vaughan Williams’

grand hymn tune “Sine Nomine”.  John Rutter’s setting of Psalm 150 was

commissioned for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II in 2002. Vaughan

Williams Festival Te Deum dates from 1937.

Le Livre d’orgue de Montreal is an 18th manuscript brought over

from France to Montreal in 1724 by Jean Girard, a Suplician monk.

“Justorum animae” translates as “Souls of the Righteous”. Giovanni

Gabrieli (1557–1612) was appointed director of music at San Marco,

Venice in 1585.

Pierre Villette: Hymne a la Vierge

Todd Wilson is head of the Organ Department at The Cleveland

Institute of Music. “A Colloquy with God” is the last work composed

by Sir Richard Rodney Bennett who died on Christmas Eve 2012. We

anticipate Christmas with the “Hymn to the Virgin” by French composer

Pierre Villette (1926-1998).

Francis Pott (1957- ) was a chorister at New College, Oxford and

went on to sing at Temple Church and Winchester Cathedral. Samuel

Sebastian Wesley (1810-1876), was the son of Samuel Wesley (1766-1837),

also a composer.

James Whitbourn (1963-) wrote his Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis

for King’s College, Cambridge. Hence the setting is styled as Collegium

Regale or for King’s College.

Maurice Durufle (1902-1986) was one of those fastidious composers

who probably destroyed more of his compositions than he permitted

to be published. His Requiem was commissioned in 1947 by the publisher

Durand.
