MAJOR £120,000 three-year arts project across North Wales is
set to be unveiled by Welsh National Opera.
Based in Wrexham, which in 2011 celebrates a Year of Culture, it
will include a new opera inspired by Welsh Bible translator Bishop
William Morgan.
“This is the first time WNO has offered up such a focused plan
of activity in North Wales,” said Rhian Hutchings, director of the
WNO’s Max project.
“Everyone from primary school children to regulars at the local
community centre will be involved. There will be singing days,
recitals and the chance to join a community choir that will take
part in the world première of Gair ar Gnawd, a new work.”
There will also be an opera pops concert in summer, just before
the town hosts the National Eisteddfod, a brass concert and
recitals by WNO musicians. Singing days will run in Holyhead,
Caernarfon, Mold and Wrexham, with projects at schools, culminating
in a concert at William Aston Hall, part of Wrexham’s Glyndr
University.
Musicians working with the project include Mirian Brown, Annette
Bryn Parri, Jenny Pearson and Angharad Lee.
