Virtually Unknown Bizet Choruses

June 20, 2026 by melinda Leave a Comment

Dear Colleagues,

Hot off the press – ten virtually unknown choruses by Georges Bizet (1838-1875) edited from original sources by Hugh Macdonald. Hugh is the author of Bizet (2014) and general editor of the New Berlioz Edition (1969-2006).

Piano-vocal and full scores may be obtained from https://www.ficksmusic.com/: Te Deum, Vasco da Gama, La Mort s’avance, La chanson du Rouet and Saint-Jean de Pathmos. Enter only ‘Fishergate’ in the search bar at the top of the page and these five titles will appear. Titles to be added soon: Valse avec cœur, Le Golfe de Baïa, and Chœur d’étudiants.

The August 2026 ACDA Choral Journal will include Hugh’s article on each of these works, please have a look! To gain perspective on Bizet’s life and complete works, go to https://talus.artsci.wustl.edu/bizet/ref/.
