Commonwealth Youthchoirs Announces Appointment of Vincent Metallo
as Music Director for Pennsylvania Girlchoir

Philadelphia, PA April 13, 2012 – Commonwealth Youthchoirs, the parent organization for the Pennsylvania Girlchoir and Keystone State Boychoir, is pleased to announce the appointment of Vincent Metallo as the new Music Director for the Pennsylvania Girlchoir.  Mr. Metallo officially begins his tenure in September of 2012. He is currently serving as interim conductor of the Motet Choir of Pennsylvania Girlchoir.

“After our extensive search, it was gratifying to know that our new musical leader was already here among us.” said Commonwealth Youthchoirs Executive Director, Susan S. Ashbaker, as she made the announcement. “His standard of musical excellence, his rehearsal and performance techniques, as well as his affable nature have already brought about positive results during the short time he’s spent with us as interim Conductor for the Motet Choir.”

Among his previous positions, Mr. Metallo has served as Director of Choral Ensembles at Princeton High School in Princeton, New Jersey, Director of Choral Music at DePauw University in Indiana and Artistic Director of the American Boychoir also in Princeton New Jersey.  He has worked with many nationally and internationally known musicians including Lorin Maazel, Michael Tilson Thomas, James Levine, Andrew Parrot, Philippe Herreweghe and many others. In addition to his conducting activities, Vincent is also an accomplished vocalist and tenor soloist.

“I’m greatly looking forward to the opportunity to lead the wonderful singers of Pennsylvania Girlchoir. During the past year I’ve enjoyed getting to know them musically and personally.” said Metallo after being named the new Music Director. Metallo has already led the Motet Choir in a number of stunning performances during the 2011-2012 season with notable performances at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Woodmere Art Museum.  In this new role, Mr Metallo brings many connections to Pennsylvania Girlchoir through his alliances with arts organizations such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The New York Philharmonic, the Carmel Bach Festival, The Princeton Singers, the Spoleto Festival and many others.

Commonwealth Youthchoirs is a non-profit organization that administers member choirs Keystone State Boychoir, Pennsylvania Girlchoir and Find Your Instrument! (FYI!), a school outreach program at the John Wister Elementary School in Philadelphia.  Commonwealth Youthchoirs provides superior choral music education and performance opportunities for young people from diverse economic, racial and ethnic backgrounds and pursues artistic excellence that inspires performers and audiences alike.
