This zany tune was composed in 1933 for the Marx Bros. classic, Duck Soup. Based on an arrangement for orchestra, premiered last month by Redwood Symphony, I’ve condensed it into 6 parts (SSATBrBs) plus vocal (or real) percussion. Challenging but lots of fun, the tune is based on augmented chords, arpeggios of same and whole tone scales, with some standard V7-to-I-chord resolutions, just to get one’s bearings.
