It’s nearly 9 PM here in Los Angeles on Christmas Eve, and the good and faithful staff at Leg Lamp Productions got a very important phone call this morning from the Big Man in Red who lives up at the North Pole for a very special assignment. Very few people like to work late on Christmas Eve, but when the Big Man himself calls and asks you for a favor on Christmas Eve, you don’t say no. You ask, “What can we do for you, Sir!”
It seems there is a great boy who lives someplace in California who wanted a train for Christmas. No big deal, right? This kid did not want a train set. He wanted REAL train! He wanted an old fashioned steam train to be exact like the ones he’s seen at various train museums. A real full sized steam locomotive engine is not something the average set of parents can store in their closet until the morning of December 25. Hiding a pony would be easier! In addition, even 9 magic reindeer are going to have some very serious trouble packing a steam train engine that big into the back of a sleigh and then try to get everything up into the air. That’s where the call to Leg Lamp Productions came in. The Big Man in Red wanted to know what alternatives we could suggest. And guess what, with help from the City of Angels Master Chorale, we had one!
Back on April 22, 2016, at St. Stephens Presbyterian Church in Chatsworth, CA, conductor Richard Medrano loaded the City of Angels Master Chorale aboard a musical express with a rendition of “Train” from Stephen Chatman’s “Due West”. Though “Train” is less than two minutes long, we knew that this song would make for the perfect video for this very special boy. The choir takes the listener on quite an exciting ride. The video for this song only adds to the enjoyment, and it provides a great sense of physicality to the music. Shot in HD video, the Dolby 5.1 surround sound effect allowed us to provide a panning effect to give the listener a sense of being near a train as it passes you. Like we said before, it’s not exactly a real steam locomotive, but it’s pretty neat video! We think that the boy in California is going to like this video for a long time!
