Three Psalms for SATB Chorus, organ or orchestral accompaniment

September 22, 2011 by Donald Sosin Leave a Comment

THREE PSALMS (Psalm 121, Psalm 133, Psalm 150) is an 11-minute triptych for chorus and organ by Donald Sosin. Text in both Hebrew and English. Optional: Soprano soloist in Psalm 121, Baritone soloist in Psalm 150. The choral versions have been performed by a number of churches and synagogues in New England and suburban New York. The orchestral version without chorus was premiered by the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra in Sept. 2009 and can be seen here:

An instrumental fanfare leads to the contemplative beginning of Psalm 121, which becomes more spirited and joyful with the concluding “The Lord will watch over thy going out and coming in.”  Psalm 133 is a gentle two-part with accompaniment, and Psalm 150 is a zesty Allegro that starts and ends with a bang.
