The Choristers present “Folk Music: The Fabric of the British & American Experience” including Barnett’s Bluegrass Mass

April 24, 2018 by David M. Spitko Leave a Comment

This Saturday April 28 at 7:30 PM, The Choristers will present “Folk Music: The Fabric Of The British & American Experience.” The featured work is Carol Barnett’s The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass which combines the solemnity of the classical choir-based mass together with the down-home sparkle of bluegrass. Joining The Choristers will be the DePue Brothers Band.

As the roots of bluegrass music began with folk music from the British Isles, the concert begins with five a cappella British folk songs arranged by Vaughan Williams, Holst & Sir David Willcocks. The repertoire then shifts to late 1800s folk music/hymns from the heartland of America including American Songs: Heavenly Home arranged by Shawn Kirchner and The Promise of Living by Copland.
The second half of the concert will be the Bluegrass Mass. The concert will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lansdale PA. For more information or to purchase tickets, go to www.TheChoristers.org. There is a $5 discount on advance ticket sales.
