Summer Choral Conducting and Teaching Workshop

2017 Choral Conducting and Teaching Workshop | July 25-27
University of Toledo
Faculty: Dr. Brad Pierson, Director of Choral Activities

This comprehensive and immersive choral conducting workshop is intended is designed to serve and educate individuals as conductor, teacher, leader, scholar, performer, and servant. Conductors will engage in sessions covering a wide variety of topics. This year’s workshop will allow conductors to choose from either a three day immersion workshop, or a one day workshop. Coffee and a light breakfast will be provided in the mornings. Ohio Teachers – this workshop will provide 18 contact hours of professional development. Please provide any required paperwork as needed.

Three Day Workshop, July 25-27:
Conductors at the three day workshop will provided extensive podium time, and will look in depth at conducting gesture and pedagogy. This workshop is designed to be repeated, and priority registration is given to previous attendees. The three day format will allow for increased individual attention, while also building a community of learners – like a choral support group! – for conductors to drawn on throughout the year. [Limit 15 Spots]

Conductors will engage in sessions covering a wide variety of topics, including:
• Conducting Gesture
• One-to-One Teaching Technique
• Mirroring and Empathy
• Connecting Gesture, Sound, and Sensation
• Teaching Techniques and Rehearsal Pedagogy
• Repertoire and Music Selection
• Reading Session – A 25-song choral reading packet will be sponsored by Musical Resources

One Day Workshop, July 27:
This workshop is designed for conductors who may not with to have individual podium time, or who are simply looking for a short summer refresher to get some new ideas for the upcoming year. A 25-song reading session will be included on this day. One day participants will also sing as a “choir” for conductors who are part of the three day program. All conductors will be active in commentary, feedback, and learning. [Limit 15 Spots]

Join us for this as we seek to “transform” ourselves, our students, our music making, and our art!

Registration Cost
Three Day Workshop: $300 if registered by July 1; $325 if registered after July 1.
One Day Workshop: $100 if registered by July 1; $125 if registered after July 1.

All sessions are from 9am-5pm, with a break for lunch (not provided).

Final deadline to register is July 18 or until the class is full, whichever comes first. Fees are due at registration.
