“The Canadian Music Centre is extremely pleased to report Associate Composer Stephen Chatman has been given the SOCAN Jan V. Matajcek Classical Music Award.
The Jan V. Matejcek New Classical Music Award recognizes Stephen Chatman’s overall success as a composer in his genre and comes just after his being awarded the Outstanding Classical Composition Award at the 2010 Western Canadian Music Award for his recording of “Earth Songs,” his third such win in five years.
Stephen Chatman’s music is also represented by sixteen publishers including the Canadian Music Centre’s popular Centrediscs recording label, which is distributed worldwide via iTunes and music stores.
Stephen Chatman’s active contribution to Canadian contemporary classical music catalogue makes him one of Canada’s leading composers.
The Canadian Music Centre exists to promote the music of living Canadian Composers, to encourage the performance and appreciation of Canadian music, and to make this music available throughout Canada and around the world.”
