Starting a Community Chorus – Advice Needed!

May 22, 2025 by George Edwin Smith 2 Comments

Any advice concerning any aspect of starting a community choir/chorus are welcome!   What to watch out for?  What to look for? What do we need to get set up?  Any legal aspects?  (Anything except repertoire suggestions.)  I have directed 3rd-12th school and college choirs for decades, but was recently asked to start a community choir or chorus.  ALL ideas are welcome.

I have written a handbook for people to begin their own choruses. Music for Everyone’s mission is to break barriers for people to access music in their lives. Therefore, everything is free. I’ll be happy to send you a copy if you email me.

Congratulations on a great adventure. I have been creating and building choral groups for nearly 50 years. I will be delighted to advise and help you. And, no, I’m not here to sell you anything. There will be no charge for my consulting.

I am away until Wednesday but will be delighted to chat anytime after. 913-488-7524
