Special-needs choir connects songwriters on journey from challenging pasts

June 3, 2011 by Richard Allen Roe Leave a Comment

The choir, comprised of special-needs men and women from ages
21 to 50, sat before director J.D. Allen as he led them in a
rendition of an original song titled “Little Flowers,” about how
children and special-needs people are precious and fragile.

J.D. strummed his guitar and guided the choir through the song,
one of many the choir will sing Friday at a free concert at Living
Light.

For the choir members, singing is not just about hitting every
note, J.D. said. Rather, it’s about the love of singing
together.

“It’s not about perfection,” he said. “It’s an example of how
they can be creative and involved.”

“Their joy is just infectious.”
