South Alabama Show Choir prepares for “Thriller”

August 13, 2012 by Richard Allen Roe Leave a Comment

By Rena Havner Philips

MOBILE, AL  — As the introduction to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” bellowed from a boom box, the student dancers rose from their graves.  And in those jerky, now-famous monster moves, they came alive, singing. “It’s close to midnight, and something evil’s lurking in the dark.”  Two days into choreography sessions, the 25 students from five Mobile County high schools — calling themselves the South Alabama Show Choir — were looking good.  Admittedly, they still had a long way to go.

“I love you guys,” a teacher yelled from the audience in Davidson High School’s auditorium, “but some of you are not singing.”
