A ONE-day trip to Wales for a South African choir has become the
subject of a critically acclaimed documentary film.
The Fezeka High School Choir appear in the film Fezeka’s Voice,
which has its Welsh premiere at the Chapter Arts Centre
tonight.
The choir are from the South African Township Gugulethu, are the
stars of the documentary and have been praised by the likes of
Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
Part of the documentary was filmed in Cardiff in June 2008, when
the choir were in Britain for the Salisbury International Arts
Festival.
The 77-strong group came to Cardiff to sing at the Wales
Millennium Centre.
The members are all aged between 14 and 22, and had never
travelled outside South Africa before their trip to the UK.
Director of Fezeka’s Voice, Holly Lubbock, said: “The Wales
Millennium Centre is an amazing space and the kids sounded amazing
when they sang there.
