After more than a year and half of silence, the Sounds of Stow Chorus and Orchestra is delighted to announce its first concert of the 2021-2022 season on Sunday, November 21 at 2pm at the Hale School in Stow, MA.
The program put together by Barbara Jones, Artistic Director, includes pieces by contemporary composers and speaks to themes of renewal, restarting, and reflection: Thomas Adès’ “Dawn – Chacony for orchestra at any distance,” Ola Gjeilo’s Sunrise Mass, Adolphus Hailstork’s “I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes,” and Christopher Tin’s “Sogno di Volare.”
As the name implies, “Dawn” depicts the arrival of a new dawn as it progresses over the globe, while “I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes” is a perfect way to celebrate our coming through a most unusual time of isolation. Renowned tenor soloist Fred VanNess will join the chorus for this piece by a prominent Black composer. Similar to “Dawn,” Gjeilo’s Sunrise Mass depicts the hope a new beginning brings. The program will end with “Sogno di Volare (Dream of Flight),” a fun, joyful and energetic piece. The program will run for a little over an hour with no intermission.
Musicians and audience members must be fully vaccinated and masked. Please bring proof of vaccination. Tickets are available at our website, www.soundsofstow.org.
