SLSO announces new In Unison Chorus director

January 5, 2011 by Richard Allen Roe Leave a Comment

BY SARAH BRYAN MILLER

The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra has announced a new director for the In Unison Chorus: Kevin McBeth, director of music at Manchester United Methodist Church since 1995, and a familiar figure in the area's choral music scene.

McBeth, 50, was chosen after a nearly year-long search for a replacement for chorus founder Robert Ray, 64, who retired in February. McBeth is the second-ever director for the 15-year-old chorus. He was educated in Houston and has served churches in Texas and Iowa as well as Missouri.

McBeth brings strength in a variety of choral styles to his new job. He is a former assistant conductor of the SLSO and was named one of the top 10 church music directors in the country by the National Religious Music Week Alliance in 2002.
