Show goes on for choir- Even After Director’s Surgery

October 29, 2010 by Richard Allen Roe Leave a Comment

By JEROME P. CURRY

HOLCOMB, KS — Rachel Massoth is focused.

On Monday, the Holcomb High School choir director had gall
bladder surgery at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

And then on Wednesday, she was back in her classroom guiding her
21-voice choir through its tonal paces. Several people in the high
school office seemed surprised she was on the job.

They shouldn’t have been. Massoth and her charges have a show to
do. The curtain rises at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Holcomb High School
Auditorium. It is going to be Broadway Night in Holcomb.

Surgeries take a backseat when showtime nears. She may not
consider surgery to be that big a deal, but the show is a really
big deal.

Broadway Night, the teacher said, “is a collection of songs
from different Broadway musicals with solos, duets and large group
numbers.”

That means work.
