Hello! My name is Juniper Duncan, and I am a choral composer and graduate student in the Library and Information Science Master’s program at Simmons University. I am currently running a study to learn more about the music information and music performance behaviours of choral musicians and directors of choirs, or patterns in how and why choral musicians choose to perform the music they do and patterns in how choral directors search for choral music to program. I plan on recruiting primarily directors through this forum and posts to other choral music listservs – if you choose to participate in the interview portion of my research as a director, you would also have the option of sharing the survey with members of your ensemble(s).
If you are a member of a choir and decide to participate in my project, you will complete a survey on how you approach searching for choral music, finding performance opportunities and aspects of your experiences performing in an ensemble. If you are a director and decide to participate in my project, you will be interviewed about how you approach directing a choral ensemble and aspects of your experiences finding repertoire for an ensemble. The survey should take between 5 – 10 minutes to complete, and the interview should take no more than an hour.
You may benefit from the opportunity to learn more about trends in how fellow musicians interact with choral music in a performance setting once the results of my research have been published. Additionally, you will be provided with a gift card or entry into a raffle for one of five gift cards for your participation. Directors will receive a $30 Amazon gift card after completion of the interview, and all participating ensemble members who successfully complete the survey will be entered into a drawing for one of five $50 Amazon gift cards.
For the purposes of my study, all participants must be above the age of 18. If interested, please email me at .
Thanks,
Juniper Duncan, PI
