Saginaw Choral Society chooses youthful musical director after 2 years of auditions

January 12, 2011 by Richard Allen Roe Leave a Comment

SAGINAW — After a nearly two-year search, the Saginaw Choral
Society celebrates its 75th anniversary under the baton of a new
artistic director.

Glen Thomas Rideout, 25, brings a background in gospel along
with a mastery of the classics to the position.

By his own admission, Rideout stands out among his peers.
Despite his youth, the Baltimore native has 10 years of
professional conducting experience, and “there’s the hair,” he
said, referring to his flowing dreadlocks.

While those factors are likely to bring a new dimension to the
vocal group, “it’s all secondary to what made him the perfect
choice,” said Executive Director Tamara Grefe.
