Written by Jay Harvey

Ruth Dwyer, who is in her 24th year as associate director of the
Indianapolis Children’s Choir, was honored recently with the
Outstanding Hoosier Musician Award at the Indiana Music Educators
Association conference meeting in Fort Wayne.

Given annually in recognition of contributions to the
advancement of music education in Indiana, the award puts Dwyer in
company with such Hoosier music educators as Jamey Aebersold, David
Baker and Ray Cramer.

Dwyer is also artistic director of the Columbus (Ind.)
Children’s Choir. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in
music education and voice from Indiana University. Before joining
ICC, she taught music in public schools for 19 years.
