I am sad to announce to the ChoralNet community that James Dearing, director of choral studies at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, passed away on November 26, 2010.
He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Music where he studied with Otto-Werner Mueller and Robert Fountain. Before coming to IUP, Dearing was assistant director of the 7th U.S. Army Soldiers Chorus and director of choral studies at the University of Virginia, the University of Illinois at Chicago, and California Polytechnic State University. As a member of the Roger Wagner Chorale, Dearing was tenor soloist on concert tours in the former Soviet Union, the Far East, South America, Europe, and throughout North America.
A memorial service will be held at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Indiana, Pa. on December 13th at 7:00 PM.
A memorial concert featuring IUP alumni, current students, faculty and friends will be held on January 16th in Gorell Recital Hall on the IUP campus at 3:00 PM. A rehearsal will be held the day before at 4:00 PM in the choir room of Cogswell Hall. A reception and room dedication ceremony will take place immediately following the concert. Anyone requesting more information about the concert can contact me through this forum.
