RICHMOND, MI — The Richmond Community Choir has a devoted
following. Proof of that can be found with the overflowing crowds
found each year during the group’s annual Christmas concerts.
When people flock to the Richmond High School auditorium each
year to see the choir perform, it’s not money they hand over to see
the performances. Guests are asked to bring canned goods which are
then donated to the Richmond Lions Club for their annual
Goodfellows basket collections.
Choir Director Joe Agosta, who also happens to be a Lions Club
member, said he’s heard from many people who appreciate the fact
that the choir does not charge for their performances.
“I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had someone tell me ‘thank
you so much for not charging,'” Agosta said.
The fact that the choir is more popular than ever, both with
audiences and members, definitely contributes to the full-house
performances and overflowing boxes of donations. The choir has
grown in the last 10 years from just a handful of members to the
more than 100 it currently boasts.
