Join directors Janet Reiter and April Duvic, the singers of Reprise Choir, our guest singers, and the incomparable Jim Fischer and Friends for this inspiring and touching season three concert that will warm your heart and affirm the power of music. The program includes works from the Renaissance (Amor vittorioso) to If I Can Stop One Heart from Breaking by Reprise member Shane W. Dittmar composed in 2017. Dittmar, music director at Washington State School for the Blind, shares, “One of the best parts about this group is its foundations in and commitment to life-long musical learning. We are a diverse group of singers with a wide spectrum musical backgrounds, and each of us learns something new at every rehearsal. In addition, this season, our performances will feature school students who are just beginning their life-long exploration of music, many of whom will also have a chance to see their teachers sing with the group.”
The concert’s title work, The Singing Heart, sung by double choirs, is accompanied by hand bells. Additional works range from Brahms’ O süsser Mai to Burt Bacharach’s hit What the World Needs Now Is Love featuring solos by nearly every member of the choir! Jim Fischer and Friends joins in the musical fun on With a Song in My Heart, a true vocal jazz standard. With a mix of classical, modern, and vocal jazz selections, the program provides music to please every choral music-lover!
The concert celebrates the power of music to express the myriad of emotions and many facets of love. “My experience with Reprise and the high caliber of musicians and directors has been life giving. Making excellent music together is a healing balm to the stresses and busy pace of life. To get to share that passion and experience with budding singers in the local schools and show them they can pursue choral singing at any stage of life (it just keeps getting better) is the sweet cherry on top!” Beth Borgstede, Reprise alto.
Reprise Choir is proud to bring their mission statement to life this season by inviting choir students from Fort Vancouver High School and five Vancouver middle schools. The Fort Vancouver High School choir will be the recipient of Reprise Choir’s first annual music scholarship to assist in promoting and supporting vocal and choral music education. According to Reprise Choir alto Amber Tripp, “It’s a joy and honor to be in a group who picks apart amazing pieces of music, only to put them back together again creating something even more beautiful than you thought possible. The attention to detail and to the overall scope of the music, plus the integration of school age singers in Vancouver is humbling. It’s exciting to have a group that encompasses all ages and can sing all genres of music exceptionally!”
