At the conclusion of an August 31 concert at Castel Gandolfo, Pope Benedict XVI observed: “Music is a privileged language for communicating the Church’s faith.”
Pope Benedict spoke after a performance of sacred music organized by Cardinal Domenico Bartolucci, the retired director of the Sistine Chapel choir. After thanking the performers, the Pope offered a special tribute to Cardinal Bartolucci, whose new composition highlighted the concert. Speaking directly to the cardinal, the Pope said that “faith is the light which has always orientated and guided your life and has opened your heart to respond generously to the Lord’s call; moreover your manner of composing also stems from your faith.”
