Pacific Chorale’s THE RADIO HOUR released October 9th

October 8, 2015 by Ryan McSweeney Leave a Comment

Pacific Chorale is proud to announce the October 9th release of its new recording, “The Radio Hour,” on Delos. The release features the world premiere recording of the choral opera The Radio Hour, which was created by American composer Jake Heggie and the versatile librettist Gene Scheer, and received its premiere performance by Pacific Chorale’s John Alexander Singers in Orange County, California in May 2014, with John Alexander conducting. Reviewer Timothy Mangan, writing for the Orange County Register, called the opera “entertaining and enchanting,” and concluded, “It felt as if we had heard something truly new.”

The recording also includes four additional Jake Heggie-composed works: “Patterns,” “I Shall Not Live in Vain,” and two versions of “He Will Gather Us Around” (a solo version and a choral version) from the opera Dead Man Walking. Mezzo-soprano Susan Graham performs on three of these shorter selections. Also featured are members of Pacific Symphony Orchestra and accompanist David Clemensen.

The Radio Hour was co-commissioned by Pacific Chorale, VocalEssence, Conspirare and The Philadelphia Singers, with the generous support of Martin and Margie Hubbard. The premiere performance was sponsored, in part, by The Segerstrom Foundation and Phillip N. and Mary A. Lyons.

“The Radio Hour” may be purchased for $14.98 by visiting https://delosmusic.com/recording/jake-heggie-the-radio-hour/ and is also available on iTunes and Amazon.
