Sounds of Stow Chorus welcomes all area singers to their Open Rehearsals, January 6, 13, and 20; First Parish Church in Stow Center (353 Great Road), 7-9 pm. Come as early as 6:30 to meet and greet your fellow singers.
The Sounds of Stow continues its 46th season under the direction of Barbara Jones, exploring “Romantic Riches” with music by Mendelssohn, (his beautiful setting of Psalm 42) and Brahms – the great motets “Nanie” and “Schicksalslied” (Song of the Fates). Neither Mendelssohn nor Brahms ever wrote a musical line that was not wonderful to sing; these works explore the eternal quest for meaning and reassurance in the midst of the uncertainties of the human condition and will be performed with full orchestra. In addition, we will revisit his “Four Songs for Women’s Chorus, Two Horns and Harp” (Vier Gesange), the epitome of Romantic expression.
Regular rehearsals are held Monday nights from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at First Parish Church in Stow center, starting January 6. The three “open rehearsals” (Jan. 6, 13, and 20) allow singers to taste this music and fall under its spell. Concert is 2:00 pm Sunday, April 13 at Littleton High School.
We are a friendly and welcoming group whose singers hail from 20+ towns in the Metrowest area and beyond. Membership is open to anyone who can match pitch, learn the music, and blend with the other voices. We particularly need some strong Tenor voices to join our group for the upcoming year. Artistic Director Barbara Jones and Assistant Artistic Director Christina Kennedy promote serious musicianship at weekly rehearsals that are lively, challenging, educational, and always fun!
