Ola Gjeilo / CWU Chamber Choir – In the moment (video trailer)

This 4 minute trailer is an overview of a project which will ultimately yield videos of 3 pieces by composer Ola Gjeilo, with the composer at the piano and sung by the Central Washington University Chamber Choir

 

The Ground, for mixed choir, piano and optional string quartet was one of the three compositions recorded.  The choir was joined by The Kairos String Quartet (CWU’s resident faculty quartet)
 

The other two – Ubi Caritas, and Northern Lights – are actually published as unaccompanied works. To paraphrase a quote in the video – Gjeilo enjoys improvising – adding improvised accompaniment to his own music. 

 

He does just that with both pieces.  The result shows his skill both as a pianist and a spontaneous creator of music.
