O magnum mysterium and Stille Nacht (Silent Night) – Joseph Gregorio | Areté Music Imprints

August 23, 2012 by Joseph Gregorio Leave a Comment

If you’re still searching for repertoire for the Christmas season, consider two new works by American composer Joseph Gregorio and published by Areté Music Imprints:

• O magnum mysterium, commissioned by Choral Chameleon, is a setting of this favorite Christmas text in a gently-flowing 6/4, using modal harmonies and featuring a fugue on the word “Alleluia.”  Text in Latin.  SATB.
• Stille Nacht (Silent Night), arranged for the San Francisco Bach Choir, is a simple, homophonic setting of Franz Xaver Gruber’s beloved Christmas carol, with verses sung by sopranos/altos, tenors/basses, an optional chamber chorus or semi-chorus, and full chorus.  Text in German or English.  SATB divisi.
