What do South Africa, Austria, Italy, USA, Norway, China, Philippines, Hungary have in common? In these – and many other – countries there are several people coming together to sing in a choir, in fact some choirs were singing that often and that great that they made it to the only World Rankings for choirs.
Stellenbosch University Choir (conducted by André van der Merwe) from South Africa is in first place, followed by the US American choir University of Louisville Cardinal Singers (Kent Hatteberg) and the Guangdong Experimental Middle School Choir from China. The Austrian Lalá Vocalensemble and the Hungarian singers from Cantate are both in fourth place.
Also the Norwegian group Cantus (Tove Ramlo-Ystad) made it to the top ten and placed 7. Cantus for the first time is among the top ten of the World Rankings and also leads the separate list for the “Female Choirs” category. Last November the performances of the Norwegian voices enchanted the audience and other competitors in China. Old acquaintances come from South Africa, Hungary and China and were able to still hold a place among the top ten.
The INTERKULTUR World Rankings (WRL) is the only one of its kind and considers all results of INTERKULTUR competitions since the year 2000, birth year of the World Choir Games (WCG). The full rankings of the best 1000 choirs can be found in the overall list and in the separate lists for categories.
