New music from Graphite!

August 7, 2023 by Graphite Publishing Leave a Comment

Each week we’ll share something new as you plan for your programs.

Contributing Editor: Jonathan Campbell

New pieces from B.E. Boykin!

B.E. Boykin’s best-selling piece “Stardust” is now available for TTB and SATB.

Stardust
SSA, piano, and djembe
Now also available for TTB, piano and djembe, and SATB, piano and djembe

Difficulty:

A beautiful and stirring call for justice, “Stardust” helps young people contextualize and express themselves in regards to social and racial injustices.

Boykin’s popular “O Magnum Mysterium” is also now available for TTBB.

O Magnum Mysterium
for TTBB a cappella choir
Also available for SSAA a cappella choir

Difficulty:

“O Magnum Mysterium” is an intense, devotional piece that explores the wonder and mystery of the Christmas story. Brief rests throughout this motet propel the work forward, as though the singers themselves gasp in wonder. Animated homophony transitions into a lyrical compound meter, evoking a gentle lullaby.

New pieces in the Tracy Wong Series!

Tracy Wong welcomes Korean-Canadian composer GiUng Lee to her series. His new piece “Noriteo (Playground),” for treble choir and percussion, feels fresh, delightful, and fun.

Noriteo (Playground)
for SSA choir and percussion

Difficulty:

Escape to the playful ambiance of Korea’s playgrounds as you groove to the rhythms of this irresistible song!

Also from Tracy Wong’s series is her own “Kira!” for treble choir and hand percussion.

Kira!
for 3-part treble, percussion (any hand drum available to the choir).
Practice Tracks available here.

Difficulty:

This playful composition for 3-part treble choir and percussion is a nod to Malay folk songs that merge counting/play (common in some childhood games) and sage advice. Practice tracks are also available, great for teaching pronunciation and learning the intended vocal style.

New from Dale Trumbore

Dale Trumbore’s beautiful and haunting “Butterfly Lullaby” is now available for both SATB and SA voices.

Butterfly Lullaby
for SATB, cello, vibraphone (or piano)
Also available for SA chorus, cello, and vibraphone (or piano).

Difficulty:

The names of real butterflies are crafted into a hauntingly beautiful lullaby.
