New Maryville College choir gives outlet to high school singers

September 23, 2010 by Richard Allen Roe Leave a Comment

MARYVILLE – Megan Sparkes used to belong to the Asheville
Symphony Children’s Choir in North Carolina. When she and her
family moved to Tennessee about three months ago, however, she was
left without a place to sing.

And because the 16-year-old is homeschooled, she didn’t have the
option of singing in a school choir.

Maryville College, however, is giving her back her voice.

The college this year is starting a choir for students who are
at the high school level. It already offers community choirs for
younger students, something it began in 2006.
