New Houston Community Children’s Choir in the Heights

July 31, 2012 by John Markert Leave a Comment

Zion Lutheran Church announces its newest outreach program, the Heights Community Children’s Choir, open to all children in grades 2 through 5, and intended to serve 6 Heights area elementary schools.  The children will rehearse Thursdays after school from 4:00-5:30 and will then be offered enrichment activities such as art, movement, piano, and tutoring on school work.

The HCCC will perform once a month in church services and will also perform for the community in an annual hymn fest, lessons & carols, and also nursing homes and assisted living centers.  The children will be tested at the end of each year on theory, vocal technique, sight singing, and aspects of the liturgy using standards from the Royal School of Church Music; they will  have the opportunity to earn medals and ribbons and move into a higher level choir the following year.

The program is tuition-free to all students and will be supported by community individuals and businesses.  The HCCC will be directed by Jamie Abrams; John Markert will serve as executive director.  Rehearsals start in September 2012.
