Sometimes you finish up a big home improvement project and find yourself with some extra supplies that are perfectly good for future projects. Well, this is exactly the case with the Burbank Chorale’s latest film project, “Spring Song”. Based on the Burbank Chorale’s May 5, 2012 “Mozart & Friends” concert that was held in Glendale, California, “Spring Song” comes in at about 24 minutes to make for a wonderful musical break during the day when you don’t have a hour to sit down and watch a full concert performance.
Featuring a medley from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Phantom of the Opera”, the Burbank Chorale then continues to soar with several other works like John David’s a cappella “You are the New Day”. It then proceeds with a rambunctious cover of Consuelo Velazquez’s “Besame Mucho” that makes you hanker for shag carpeting and Nehru jackets while looking for where you had packed away your bottle of High Karate aftershave back in the early 1970s. The Burbank Chorale wraps up “Spring Song” with the Colburn Children’s Choir in Peter Tchaikovsky’s solemnly beautiful “The Lord’s Prayer”.
Videographer David Bauer of L & H Video Productions’ rehearsal and performance footage captures much of the fun and intimacy of singing with the chorale. His footage also includes an impressive sweeping panoramic shot of the entire concert hall during the “The Lord’s Prayer”. There are also additional photographs by choir member Michael A. O’Donoghue and local Los Angeles area photographer Garone C. Africa that provide candid moments during a typical rehearsal and behind the scenes moments during a concert.
