The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom by Kurt Sander
The PaTRAM Institute Singers, Peter Jermihov, conductor
Reference Recordings presents the second release in their series from the PaTRAM Institute, which is dedicated to cultivating and promoting the Russian Orthodox liturgical arts. The music performed on this new recording of choral music in the English language was written by Kurt Sander, an American composer who converted to the Russian Orthodox Church in 1995. Conductor Peter Jermihov writes: “The Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom by Kurt Sander is unique in several respects. Within the body of repertoire contained in the Russian-based jurisdictions of North America, it is the first and only complete setting of the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom in English. Rooted in the 19th Century Russian models of such masters as Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Gretchaninoff, and others, Sander’s Liturgy grows out of the monumental choral edifices of these masters and rightfully belongs in their midst.”
The score is now available through Musica Russica Publishing House, either as a full work, or as individual movements. For more information, visit https://referencerecordings.com/explore/kurt-sander/
