I’m sharing news of a new fun piece for choirs, for Christmas, or for any time of year, from composer Paul Ayres.
The title is “Satsumas are the Only Fruit” — the poem is below — and it’s scored for SATB or SSA or unison/solo, with piano accompaniment.

Oh how I love to consume a satsuma!
A satsuma a day will create a good humour.
To get one I would fight a lion or a puma
or risk the revenge of wrathful Montezuma.
For the sweet taste of a single satsuma
I would listen to a two-hour-long concerto for solo tuba,
or learn the three major dialects of Yoruba,
or read the minutes of the 1906 Duma.
Oh how I love to consume a satsuma!
A satsuma a day will create a good humour.
The merest rumour of a buried satsuma
would make me turn fructo-archaeologist/exhumer.
Juicy-sweet segmental sensation!
Luscious litmus-testing, citrus-besting Christmas elation!
How I love to consume a satsuma!
How I’d love to resume: to dispel any gloom just make room to consume a satsuma.
Oh how I’d love a satsuma.
It is also easier to rhyme than orange.
