“When Euga Male Choir commissioned this piece, I thought that it was an opportunity to say something meaningful. Rather than just using a choir as a sound element I strongly felt that the lyrics have to convey a contemporary message. KEHTO describes the perspective where we see computers as our caretakers. We trust them without actually knowing how they work and we expect them to serve us so that we can do less and rest. It’s an ancient theme of greed which is present also in the Finnish national epic Kalevala. This reference is present in the piece by using the Kalevala’s metre in the poem, written by Saara Honkanen.

I created the computer part with Renoise Tracker. Some essential sound elements are custom made by sound designer Jindřich Kravařík. Music tracker has a long history and a close connection with early game programming and it’s a relatively nordic phenomenon.”
