LEXINGTON, NC — Melonie Rector is no stranger to the music community of Lexington.
For the past eight years as the choral director at Lexington Middle School, she has shared a deep passion of hers with the students in Lexington City Schools. Her hard work was evident Thursday when she was named the 2011-12 Teacher of the Year for the system.
“I’m very humbled to be selected. I really don’t know what to say,” Rector, 48, said. “I feel such privilege to work with and for you. I just hope I can do a good job and represent them well. I’m glad they have confidence in me.”
More than 30 teachers, principals, school board members and administrators attended the annual luncheon at The City Club of Lexington.
“This is a special, special time,” said Rick Kriesky, superintendent of Lexington City Schools. “Everyone is a winner. You do what it takes in the classroom.”
