Singer Barry Manilow’s former publicist now lives in
Jacksonville and has a daughter at Martin J. Gottlieb Day School in
Mandarin.
That meant that the fourth- and fifth-grade choir at the private
Jewish school got to sing backup for the veteran performer when he
appeared at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena last
month.
Manilow asked if the choir wanted to back him up on his “One
Voice” number. They agreed, of course, and Manilow’s musical
director worked with the children for 25 minutes.
“They all got a huge shock after they sang as streamers and
loads of confetti came shooting out of cannons right next to them,
” said Talie Zaifert, admissions and marketing director.
