Lost in the Loving, Floating Ocean of Thee

December 3, 2014 by Aliana Kae Leave a Comment

Every Wednesday at MusicSpoke, we feature new scores by our composers and post a review on our blog! This week, we have Lost in the Loving, Floating Ocean of Thee by Timothy Tharaldson, a beautiful setting of the Walt Whitman poem. Keep an eye out for new scores every week! See it, hear it, buy it at MusicSpoke!

Timothy Tharaldson’s setting of the Walt Whitman poem “Lost in the Loving, Floating Ocean of Thee” for unaccompanied SATB chorus divisi is a stunning work of great sensitivity and emotional scope. Timothy writes music that singers like to sing, and any technical challenges presented are mitigated by the excellent craft of his vocal lines. Beautiful contrapuntal writing is contrasted with gorgeous homophonic sessions. The pace of the whole work is managed masterfully. An advanced high school or university ensemble will find the challenges presented in the work well worth the effort. It is a stunning piece of music!

Listen to the full score in its entirety here!
