MYRTLE BEACH, SC — As an architect of many musical productions
at Carolina Forest High School, Kraig McBroom’s efforts have been
appreciated by many across the Grand Strand, but Tuesday night, he
received the ultimate award from his school district by being
chosen Horry County Schools Teacher of the Year.
District educators and administrators filled a ballroom at the
Myrtle Beach Marriott Resort at Grande Dunes to honor McBroom and
others who have made their mark educating the students of Horry
County.
McBroom was one of five finalists that included Pamela Petty,
Burgess Elementary School; Angela Nuzzo Rowehl, Myrtle Beach
Intermediate School; Donna Satterley, Waccamaw Elementary School;
and Amy Zion Spivey, Kingston Elementary School, for the top
honor.
“Are you crazy? It’s taken me 30 years to get here,” said
McBroom as he took the stage, displaying a sense of humor that kept
the audience laughing.
In accepting his award, McBroom, who has taught choral music at
Carolina Forest High for 11 years, encouraged young teachers who
are working hard each day to continue their efforts, because,
“sooner or later, they will run out of good candidates.”
