KINGSTON, SURREY, UK — Singers filled a shopping centre with
an impromptu escalator performance.
In a debut performance by Surbiton Escalator Choral Society,
known as SECS, singers filled what is the world’s largest single
truss escalator.
They gathered in the Bentall Centre for their performance of
I’ll Build a Stairway to Paradise on Thursday, January 27.
Organiser Robin Hutchinson, who led the chorus from the front,
said: “For people to break their confidence barrier just to stand
and sing on an escalator is just fantastic.”
The performers, who included councillors Barry O’Mahony and
David Ryder-Mills, were met with applause from shoppers.
