Juliano takes over Solano Choral Society

September 2, 2011 by Richard Allen Roe Leave a Comment

SOLANO, CA — Kristy Juliano quickly realized the difference between all those choirs she directed at St. Patrick-St. Vincent High School — and taking over the reins of the Solano Choral Society at Solano Community College.

The former is, naturally, replete with teenagers. The latter? Teenagers could be grandchildren of some the choral society members. And with the age range from 20s to 70s comes various reasons a member decides to be in the choral society, said Juliano.

“There have been people who have been singing all their lives and people are beginners,” Juliano said. “There are people who just love to sing and have been in the organization 20, 25 years. It’s kind of cool.”

Expecting from 60 to 80 members this year, Juliano said the big numbers usually help ease the pain for those getting their toes wet.

“There are a lot who are nervous in a new situation,” Juliano said. “There are always people in each section that can support and help the people who are new.”
