First Baptist Church of Decatur presents their second annual celebration of joyful gospel music, “Joy Night” on May 5th at 5pm.
Our community gospel music celebration, Joy Night, celebrates the diversity of the human spirit, with joyful music sung by choirs of all types. We will also honor former first lady, Mrs. Rosalynn Carter, for her humanitarian work at Joy Night.
Many exciting musical groups will be joining us including Kevin Styles and Psalms, Decatur High School, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Greenforest Baptist Church, and others. Each choral group will perform separately before combining for a grand finale.
Our inspiration for ‘Joy Night’ came from one of our members, Julian Bond, who recalled the overwhelming feelings of community and purpose when churches came together monthly for a night of music and fellowship in the Roslyn Heights area of New York City. During joy night we will also help Julian Bond celebrate his 30th year in the music ministry.
