Jesu, Rex Admirabilis was commissioned by the Golden Gate Men’s Choir of San Francisco, directed by Joseph Piazza. The original setting was for TTBB, two countertenors and two solo tenors. I did this setting for TTBB with some divisi.
It’s a piece of medium difficulty with some truly epic moments and others of pure ecstasy that can be performed with a large male choir but equally well with a small ensemble of eight members. The languages used in Jesu, Rex Admirabilis are Latin and English alternately; given its nature, is well suited to open a concert.
